Golden Spike Ceremony HD 1080p

Take a trip to promontory, Utah, to see a reenactment of the Golden Spike Ceremony from May 10, 1869, which celebrates the joining of the rails of the first transcontinental railroad. Leland Stanford drove in the 17.6-karat gold final spike. After the ceremonial tap, a final iron spike was driven in to connect the railroads. This ceremony also celebrates the significance of the immigrants who helped accomplish this feat. You will delight in viewing the running of the two steam engines as they almost meet head to head. The Central Pacific laid 690 miles, some over very rugged land, and the Union Pacific laid1,068 miles of track.
