NSW govt makes ‘temporary and targeted agreement’ to delay closure of Eraring Power Station

NSW Energy Minister Penny Sharpe says the “temporary and targeted agreement” to extend the lifespan of Eraring power station will ensure the lights stay on as the government manages an orderly exit from coal-fired power.

“It’s a transparent agreement. It will be tabled in parliament in the next sitting week,” Ms Sharpe said during a media conference on Thursday.

“But we’re also providing a summary of that agreement.”

Ms Sharpe’s remarks come after the Minns government signed a deal with Origin Energy to operate the coal-fired Eraring Power Station until August 2027.
