The creators of Red Dwarf and Timewasters on making time travel funny | BFI panel

Sci-fi and comedy may be a tricky mix, but when done well the results can be spectacular.

In this panel we welcome some of the creative crew behind Red Dwarf, the popular BBC sitcom about a crew of misfits stranded in space, and the creator of Timewasters, a comedy about a modern day jazz band transported to the 1920s, to talk about the joy and complexity of making time travel funny.

The panel includes Red Dwarf writer Rob Grant, exec producer Paul Jackson, director Ed Bye and Timewasters creator Daniel Lawrence Taylor. It hosted by film critic, broadcaster and host of the Girls On Film podcast Anna Smith.
