GoPro Floaty for HERO8 - Will It Float? Testing the floaty on selfie sticks | GoPro Max
Recorded with the GoPro Max (keyframe done with GoPro Mobile app on LG v30 Android).
In this video I look at the GoPro HERO 8 Black Floaty and the standard Floaty attached to the HERO8 Protective Housing (Dive Housing) and see how well they protect your camera from being lost at sea or in a lake/river if they are d dropped while attached to a selfie stick.
The sticks I tested out were the Handler, 3-way and Smatree monopod. Both floaties worked with the three way at first, but I noticed bubbles as the handle where the tripod is houses began to fill with water. Once enough water has gotten into the handle, things changed for the worse.
In case your wondering, I've tested the GoPro Shorty in the past, and while the floaties did keep it floating, I wouldn't rely upon it. My best advice is to tether the camera to your wrist if you are using it near water while attached to a selfie stick. If you own a Silicone Sleeve, you can remove the lanyard and attach it to the HERO8 floaty. For added security, using a floatation wrist strap that attaches to the camera is best.
