The True Highland Kilt
As always when you make a youtube video afterwards there are always things you wish you had explained better One of those things is where I say that Highlanders have no real concept of cleanliness. What I wish i had added was.. as compared to us modern humans today. Baths being difficult and labour intensive, I believe they may have washed themselves down with rags. Also there are accounts of women stopping to chat at the stone of Clach na Cuddin in Inverness after washing their clothes in the river Ness. This also suggests that they of course did clean their garments and remove their clothing.
As for the great kilt, some probably fashioned belt loops to them so they could be hung up after taking them off.
For more info on the ordinary lives of Scottish 18th century Highlanders I highly recommend reading Burts letters from the north of Scotland.
Special thanks to Tyr McAsgard for pointing this out
