Nissan 300zx Fuel Pump Diagnosis & Walboro 255 Install
This one may seem long but it is jam packed full of information for a 1990-1996 Nissan 300zx in which I had to do from ground zero.
Problem: I went to go do a burnout in my Z32 and after having the car idle for about 10-15 min I drove the car to our spot and had to turn around. Once I pulled my handbrake and swung the car around the car stalled and would not start again, so we towed it back. The car wanted to turn over but just was not getting any fuel.
Diagnosis: First step: Is to see with accessory power on (Just turning the key on and not cranking) listen for the fuel relay to click twice by your left foot (LHD) and listen for the humming of the fuel pump priming behind you.
Second Step: Test power from from relay using test light/ multi meter
Third Step: Test power to FCPU
Fouth Step: Test power to Fuel Pump
(In our case we were getting power to the relay, and to the FPCU, but no power to the fuel pump after the FCPU connector)
After swapping the fuel pump (believing that I starved the pump) we still were not getting power back there. I then looked into deleting the FPCU. Here is the link on the write up ( https://conceptzperformance.com/wiki/index.php/FPCU_Bypass_(2x2) ) Once deleting the FPCU we were able to get the pump to prime once or twice.
We then checked out connector on the ECU and saw that it was not fully clamped down (possibly from drifting and transitions) so we cleaned the connector then clamoed it down fully and hung it up tightly.
I then opened up the loom from the relay and let the relay stretch out for several hours. I then tested again and everything worked flawlessly!
To make sure I did not need to worry about this anymore I Ran the fuel pump relay to a switch. This is really easy. Find The black w/pink tracer wire on the fuel pump relay harness (in the kick panel), you then give your-self enough length and snip the wire. After this you will conect a wire by butt-connector and run the entension of wire to a switch on your switch board. once this is ran to the switch you then run a ground wire from that switch to in area of clean metal behind your switch panel.
Parts used:
- 1 heat shrink butt-connector
- 4 heat shrink eye connectors
- 1 switch
