Public persona can be everything in music. And for the longest time, that translated into artists maintaining the illusion of being larger than life. But now, today’s crooners and songstresses are stripping away the façade in favor of something far more human and relatable. R&B is now burrowing underneath the skin and shining a light on the grey areas. And where unwavering confidence used to reign supreme, today is the genre’s era of introversion.
