Cilley - Barber to Knife Edge, Mount Katahdin | Winter Ice Climbing Trip Baxter State Park

With light packs and fat bikes, Brent and I made our third attempt (this season) to climb the classic Cilley-Barber Route on Mount Katahdin. We decided to go light on bikes and basecamp out of Roaring Brook Bunkhouse. The spirit of Mount Pamola graced us with blue bird sky, low winds, and 34 degrees on the summit. The crux pitch was thin. Thoughtful mixed moves turned into steep ice, and a parasol just big enough to give the top an overhung feel. It was everything I was looking for. 4+ or 5- PG13.

Up Cilley-Barber to the summit of Katahdin, back over the Knife Edge, and down The Chimney. The best day I've ever had in Baxter State Park.
