Bushcraft Hack: Splitting Logs Without a Full Tang Knife | Ultimate Guide

Many times we are faced with the situation of needing to break open a log that is way bigger then the actual blade.
This is especially critical if the knife doesn't have a full tang, like many Morakniv knives do.
The knife is a precious resource that has to be preserved.
You can easily make two edges out of a healthy piece of wood, ideally hard wood, when faced with a large log. In this instance, I quickly created 2 wedges out of dried, soft pine.
The easiest method I've found is to use the fractures that already exist in dry wood, which naturally form, to easily pry open the log without running the danger of damaging the knife.
This is a straightforward method that can be scalled up for larger logs. My recommendation for those is to utilize hardwood for the wedged.
