The Mixer Fixer Returns; Tightening up a Loose Kitchenaid ~ Rick's Tips DIY

Hi All! This week I have to tear down the yellow Kitchenaid mixer that Noreen uses in the kitchen again and give it a good tightening up. The head will become loose on occassion and rock back and forth when kneading bread and since we make our own bread every week, our mixer gets a work out. Time to crack it open and give it a little tweak.

We have a 6 quart Kitchenaid Professional 600, lift bowl mixer. It is long out of warranty and I have repaired this at least 6 times in the last two years. I don't know how many more times I will be able to repair it, if any and we are saving for a new commercial model. We are planning to have one very soon.

If you have a Kitchenaid mixer that is acting up don't be afraid to approach this task. Do your research and assess the level of knowledge you are going to need to fix the problem. I have fixed the entire gear box, replaced the lower plate and taken apart and put this back together several times. There isn't that much to it and you can do it. Please make sure your mixer is out of warranty and you will be fine.

Make sure you have the right tools and you can do just about any task. This just required me to remove and replace some allen screws and some lock washers. I made sure these were not going anywhere by adding a dab of E-6000 glue. This should keep things nice and tight for a while.

When you put everything back together and test the machine for efficacy you may notice that it sounds different. This is because everything needs to re-seat and redistribute. After a few moments it should sound normal again.

I hope this was helpful and if you have a similar problem I hope you feel like you can do this repair yourself. You most likely spent a lot of money on your mixer just like we did so it is important to know how to take care of it if you need to!

Have a Handy Week!
