Turbo Zoom HD

Unlike most Zoom movies, I run this one in reverse from end to start. This is a basic illustration of what happens as you zoom in on the westernmost tip of the Mandelbrot needle. Fractal Extreme, for whatever reason, uses an 8-bit color pallette with 228 colors instead of the binary 256. I have noticed a pattern that when you finally pick a position to zoom in on, the image will be divided diagonally, with a solid region of X iterations in the top and bottom areas. Some time later, as each black band forks into two black bands, the number of iterations is X * 2, then X * 3 after the next doubling, and so on. For this movie, I used X = 228 such that at each doubling of the iteration bands, the number of iterations is 228 greater than before. This makes every other band always set to the color black, in which you pass through a rainbow of color between every dividing.

The reasoning for playing this movie backwards is simple: most of the interesting footage is near the very center of the zoom. Going the normal [inward] route, the zoom movie is half over by the time it the tip of the needle disappears from view. The next division takes place at 75%, making the bands appearing extremely dense towards the end. The video was rendered at 1280x720 pixels, 3x3 anti-aliasing, with guessing turned off to minimize the annoying moire patterns that ultimately result when the bands get infinitesimally close together.

Enjoy, and don't forget to rate & comment ;o)
