The Beastie Boys were an American hip-hop group known for their pioneering contributions to the genre and their influential career spanning several decades. The group was formed in New York City in 1981 and consisted of three members:
Michael "Mike D" Diamond (born November 20, 1965)
Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (born October 31, 1966)
Adam "MCA" Yauch (August 5, 1964 - May 4, 2012)
The Beastie Boys started as a punk rock band, but they transitioned into hip-hop in the early 1980s. They gained widespread recognition with their debut album, "Licensed to Ill," which was released in 1986. The group's blend of rock and hip-hop elements, along with their energetic and irreverent lyrics, made them a distinctive and influential force in the music industry.

Tragically, Adam Yauch (MCA) passed away in 2012 after battling cancer, which led to the end of the Beastie Boys as an active musical group.
