Testing a Thermopile on a Water Heater

How to test a thermopile's voltage using a multimeter. Pilot light keeps going out? A faulty thermopile may be at fault. Acceptable range for most water heaters is around 400 mV for an open circuit test. A healthy thermopile usually produces anywhere from 600-750 mV.
