Shinkansen trains in Japan are also referred to as bullet trains. Achieving the crown of the fastest train in the world is a tough challenge, as many countries operate with large success high speed trains in the world. Recently, technological advancements have pushed Asian countries (especially China 🇨🇳) back to the top of the table of fastest trains in the world, now overtaking Europe in all the important aspects: number of people using high speed train network 🛤, price per kilometre 💵 as well as operating and top speeds. Although the numbers seem pretty clear, there is still a large debate on who holds the world fastest train. The big outsider of this top remains America, which mainly focuses on air travel, but has recently signed a contract for the first project of high speed rail and will classify in future rankings.
