How the End Sars Movement Could Change Nigeria Forever
In 2016, the Nigerian police force was officially ranked as the worst in the world by the World Internal Security and Police Index, posting a worse score than the police forces in DR Congo, Kenya and Uganda which alongside Nigeria were considered to have the four worst police forces in the entire world. However, with the outbreak of the ongoing EndSars protests, millions of young Nigerians from all over the world have decided that enough is enough. Although the protests were initially directed at the Nigerian Police Force’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad, long notorious for murdering, extorting, raping, and kidnapping the very same people it was set up to protect, the protests have evolved into a broader national movement calling for much needed reforms from the top to bottom of every aspect of Nigerian society.
In this short opinion piece, K.B. Taiwo takes a brief look at how the #EndSars Movement could transform Nigeria's political landscape in the long-run.
