When figuring out how stop hair breakage with black hair, it can either be a challenging or easy process depending on how simple or complicated your hair regimen may be. The more process and hair products you put your African american hair through, the more tough it is to diagnose such an infamous question..

"Why is my hair damaged and why do I have hair breakage?"

The health of your hair is a direct reflection of your knowledge about how to take care of your hair. If someone else does your hair, their knowledge will be reflective upon your hair. The thing we must keep in mind about black hair is that it wants gentle products and hair practices. Black hair is not complicated at all! We complicate black hair and expect it to cooperate regardless of what we do. Below I will give you my top 6 reasons why your relaxed hair or natural hair looks dry.
Hair Breakage Reasons That Stunt Hair Growth #1 Lack of Protein In Chemically Relaxed Hair

When you chemically relax your hair, it can make dealing with your hair easier or tougher depending on the type of person you are and how you perceive your hair in certain states. As healthy as chemically relaxed hair can and does look healthy, relaxers are automatically damaging on hair but to combat the disintegration that chemical relaxers do to your hair strands, it is of urgent importance that you follow up with a protein and moisturizing treatment. Your hair is made up mostly of proteins and a relaxer disturbs the very compounds that your hair is made up of. Without going through these treatments after your relaxer or touch-up treatment, your hair is forced to fend for itself.

Personally, I used to be relaxed years ago but I wasn't a healthy relaxed person. I NEVER did protein or moisture treatments because I didn't know I had to. I always over processed my hair as well by perming over already permed hair, purposely! I did not have a desire to master the relaxing process for my hair and that led me to grow my hair natural.
Hair Breakage Reasons That Stunt Hair Growth #2 Lack of Moisture In Your Hair

Hair cannot thrive under dry conditions! By nature, African american hair is drier and requires moisture (water) frequently, sometimes daily, sometimes a couple of times a week. If you do not have a hair care regimen, this is exactly why you suffer from hair breakage! How often do apply moisture to your scalp and hair throughout the week? Do you have some type of regimen? If you are not sure how often you should do the following above, its best to just pay close attention to your hair. Moments when your hair feels dry, use a spray moisturizer to add moisture to your scalp, that can be as simple as mixing a little bit of water and jojoba oil (a natural sebum mimicking oil) in a travel size spray bottle for moisture.

At times when this quick spritz of moisture doesn't work but your scalp and hair isn't ready for a shampoo wash quite yet, try a co-wash (conditioner only hair wash). Sometimes my hair cries for moisture and the oil+water spritz and hair butters don't work so I like to co-wash my hair with any Vo5 hair conditioner I have on hand. It always does the trick (below is my favorite)...
