EXCURSION TO THE CRUISER AURORA OF THE 19TH CENTURY

"Aurora" is a cruiser of the 1st rank of the Baltic Fleet of the Diana type. It is named after the sailing frigate Aurora, which became famous during the defense of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky during the Crimean War.

During the Russian-Japanese War, he participated in the campaign of the Second Pacific Squadron, which ended with the Battle of Tsushima. The cruiser also took part in the First World War. A blank shot from the Aurora was the signal for the beginning of the storming of the Winter Palace and the beginning of the revolution of 1917. The cruiser became one of the main symbols of the October Revolution.

Since 1948, it has been permanently parked at the Petrogradskaya Embankment at the source of the Bolshaya Nevka. The cruiser was moved several times for repairs, the last time it returned to the parking lot on July 16, 2016.
