Simple machines are basic mechanical devices that make work easier by allowing us to apply a smaller force over a longer distance to accomplish a particular task. There are six types of simple machines:

Lever:

A lever consists of a rigid bar (or plank) that pivots on a fixed point called a fulcrum. It has three main parts: the load (resistance), the effort (force applied), and the fulcrum (pivot point). Levers are used to lift or move heavy loads with less effort.
Examples: See-saw, crowbar, scissors, wheelbarrow handles.

Wheel and Axle:

The wheel and axle consist of a circular wheel that rotates around a central axle. When force is applied to the wheel, it turns the axle, and vice versa. This simple machine allows us to move heavy objects with reduced effort.
Examples: Bicycle wheels, steering wheel, doorknob, and windmill.
Pulley:

A pulley is a wheel with a groove that holds a rope or cable. It is used to change the direction of a force or lift heavy objects. There are two main types of pulleys: fixed pulley (attached to a stationary point) and movable pulley (attached to the object being lifted).
Examples: Flagpole pulley, window blinds, construction cranes.
Inclined Plane:

An inclined plane is a flat surface that is set at an angle to the ground. It allows us to move objects up or down with less force than lifting them vertically. By increasing the distance traveled, the force required to lift the object is reduced.
Examples: Ramp, stairs, wheelchair ramp.
Wedge:

A wedge is a triangular-shaped object that tapers to a thin edge. It is used to split or separate objects by applying force to the wide end, causing the wedge to push objects apart.
Examples: Knife, axe, chisel, doorstop.

Screw:

A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder or post. Turning the screw allows it to move through a solid material, either to fasten objects together or to lift objects.
Examples: Screw, bolt, jar lid, spiral staircase.
