The San Juan River (Impossible) - American Conquest

American Conquest - Single Mission - The San Juan River

A thoroughly frustrating mission. You will be pinned down for most of it, while you struggle to build and stockpile resources. Don't be afraid to save before making a risky or big move.

You will need all the Iron you can save, so you'll have to refrain from training new troops. Place some Halberdiers near your resources to prevent your Peasants from being captured, and keep the Harquebusiers garrisoned to prevent them from using up Iron when they shoot.
Keep your buildings close to eachother and well garrisoned, so they benefit from overlapping lines of fire and easy access when repairs are needed.
Gold won't be an issue for a long time, so you can capture the temples at any time you want.

You will be attacked relentlessly by 3 enemies:
- The Incas will attack consistently, but a well garrisoned Shipyard and Storehouse can fend off most of their attacks. Their base is close to the sea and their buildings can be taken down by a Caravel. Take down their Fortress and Dwellings as soon as possible to get some much needed breathing room.
- The Aztecs are the most dangerous by far, as their Spearmen can resist bullets and shoot down armored and garrisoned units with ease, while their Archers can outrange your buildings. Their attacks will prevent you from building an Iron Mine until you can hold them back with units. There is a cliff south of your base from which a Cannon can shoot down their main buildings with near impunity.
- The Mayas will attack infrequently, but in great numbers. This seems to be caused by a bug, as a huge amount of units will be at their base when you finally get to attack them. Their raids are relatively easy to fend off, but be careful with building up in your north flank, as this can trigger a massive attack that can overwhelm you if you aren't well entrenched. Bombard their bases as soon as you can, but only attack head on once you've amassed a large force, as they will be the fiercest in defense.

Avoid building your Fortress in the enemies' active attack routes, as shooting from it will spend Iron and Coal. Upgrade it until you can train Dragoons (17th Century), as they are the earliest unit you can train that doesn't require Iron. They will be able to hold back the Aztec's attacks and cover you while you build and operate your Iron Mine.

Attack the enemy bases only after you've destroyed their Fortresses (which produce Archers indefinitely) and advanced Dwellings (which produce Spearmen and Pikemen indefinitely) . You can transition into training Conquistadors once the Aztec attacks have ceased and Food income is sustainable, as they will be able to resist arrows from Towers more effectively. Continue bombarding the Towers with your Cannons as soon as the enemy production buildings are gone. Bulk up your forces with armored infantry and shooters, then attack en masse. After you've done that with each base, you only need to clean up.
