EmpowerED S3W2 - Using Copilot to Create Weekly Formative Quizzes based on Lecture Slides
There is strong evidence for the use of frequent quizzing to improve student outcomes (Sotola and
Crede, 2021; Yang et al., 2021), and these can be even more effective when based directly on the
lectures delivered to students. Integrating AI-generated activities into lessons expands opportunities for
students to check and reflect on their understanding while minimising staff workload.
This presentation will show how to use Copilot and ChatGPT to create MCQ quizzes, sorting exercises,
and other activities in Articulate Storyline based on a lecturer’s PowerPoint slides or lecture transcript.
For Moodle, these can be created in the Aiken format so that they can easily be added to a Moodle quiz.
To improve engagement, completion tracking can be used so that students must finish the quiz before
they can access the next week’s slides. By providing these quizzes every week to students, they can
check their learning and approach the following week with greater confidence.
This session will highlight practical ways to combine Copilot and ChatGPT or choose between them based
on the task, ensuring a flexible and effective approach to AI-assisted learning design. Ethical
considerations, including data privacy and the importance of academic input will also be discussed.
