Toyota 4AGE Engine: How to set Ignition Timing (AE86)

It is very easy to set the ignition timing on your AE86 (or any other car equipped with a 4A-GE of the same age). Here is a guide / tutorial to help you set it right, save the environment, get more power and less gasoline smell in the exhaust.

Specs for the 4A-GE 16V Blue Top: 10º on diagnostics mode, 16º on normal mode.

Specs for the 4A-GE 1st Gen aka Blue Top (16 Valve): 10º on diagnostics mode, 16º on normal mode.

Specs for the 5th Gen 4A-GE aka Black Top (20 Valve) : You must short the TE1 and E1 Pins on the Diag Connector and the degrees are (from the BT repair manual):

8-12º @ idle (In diagnostics mode-with wire short)
10º or more @ idle (in regular mode-without wire short)
If you don't have a diagnostics port, you can try to splice the ecu wiring and install a switch to short the same two pins (E1 and T) on the ecu ifself. Pinout schematic here:
