'We warned the world Sudan genocide would happen' - Africa Explained

In the 3 years since the war in Sudan began, war crimes investigators tracked Sudan's genocide from orbit. While the world struggled to get reporters on the ground, satellites from @hrl_yalesph were quietly documenting everything; every scorched village, every pattern of destruction, even blood seen from space, in El Fasher.

The war began on April 15, 2023 as a power struggle between two generals spiralled into a campaign against civilians, and became one of the worst humanitarian crises unfolding today. But long before the images shocked the world, the warnings were already there.

@zakiyyahatia spoke to a war crimes investigator tracking Sudan from space, who told her that this war could not only be seen from space, but it was one that he had warned the UN Security Council was coming in July 2023, and they still failed to stop it.
