In 2012, the Family Research Council was attacked, and a security guard was shot inside the organization’s building. Years later, lawmakers are still asking whether the Southern Poverty Law Center’s decision to place FRC on its controversial “hate map” contributed to the climate that led to that attack.

In this tense congressional exchange, the SPLC is pressed directly: Did the organization ever acknowledge, retract, correct, or reconsider its listing of the Family Research Council?

The answer was clear: FRC remains on the SPLC’s hate map because, according to the SPLC, it meets their criteria.
