100 and 1000! Improve your English with Prefixes: Centi, Milli, Kilo! Hundred and Thousand

What is a Centenarian? Why is K the symbol for 1000? Who is a Millennial? In today’s English lesson you will learn the answers to these questions and more by understanding the prefixes centi, milli, and kilo. Prefixes are a great way to improve your English fluency and sound more like a native speaker. Today you will improve your English and learn vocabulary connected to hundred and thousand in today’s English lesson!

The prefixes in today’s English lesson are all part of the metric system, which may make them easier to remember. The words included in this English vocabulary lesson about 100 and 1000 are:

Centi is the prefix for hundred. It comes from the Latin word, ‘Centi’. If you see ‘centi’ in front of a word, that word is connected to 100. Ie: Cent, Centimetre, Centipede, Century, Centenarian, Centenary, Centennial

Milli is a prefix for thousand. It comes from the Latin word, ‘Milli’. If you see ‘milli’ in front of a word, that word is connected to 1000. Ie: Millimetre, Millilitre, Millipede, Millennium, Millennial

Kilo is also a prefix for thousand. It comes from the Greek word, ‘Kilo’. If you see ‘kilo’ in front of a word, that word is connected to 1000. Ie: Kilowatts, Kilometre, Kilogram
