COP26: Litigation, Fair Share, and Climate Responsibilities of Govs. and Fossil Fuels (11.6.2021)
Climate responsibility is increasingly being addressed through litigation. But how do science, and ethics inform the law on government and corporate climate accountability and determine their respective fair shares of emissions reductions? And what is the role of human rights law in this context, especially in the Global South?
This online side-event at COP26, co-hosted by Asociación Interamericana para la Defensa del Ambiente (AIDA), the Centre for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law, and the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) aims to showcase the latest thinking about litigation and climate accountability of state and corporate actors. The roundtable discussion between leading experts on the interplay between law and science in the context of climate litigation showcases developments in the Global South, with a specific focus on Latin America.

• Annalisa Savaresi, Associate Professor of International Environmental Law, Centre for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law, University of Eastern Finland
• Lavanya Rajamani, Professor of International Environmental Law, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford
• Dennis van Berkel, Legal Counsel, Urgenda Foundation
