Insurance companies fight car fraud with AI tools

Insurers in France are now facing new types of fraud. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, some people are using just a few clicks to create fake identities or doctored photos to claim false damages on their vehicles.

But insurance companies have decided to fight back — using the same weapon.

Each year, the amount related to car insurance fraud in France represents 2 to 3% of the total compensation paid by insurers. This figure is constantly increasing, accentuated by the fact that deception techniques are becoming more sophisticated. For example, the declaration of false claims can now rely on images of fictitious damage generated by AI in an ultra-realistic way.

Using AI to optimize its vehicle inspections for more than a thousand customers, the WeProov group is putting forward software for reporting and managing automobile claims, positioning itself at the forefront of inspection, claim reporting and repair estimation technologies: WeProov Claim .

Then, you can see some blurry elements around the logo, and here, scratches that appear on the bodywork but not on the taillight — they stop right at its edge.”

The problem is that the policyholder will send photos of the damage, but also of small details that have nothing to do with the actual incident."

01:53- SOUNDBITE (French) Alexandre Meyer, CEO Weproov : "So we focus on the photos of the damage — the app will prompt the user to take pictures of the damage, which allows me to get different angles to help with the assessment, but most importantly, to better evaluate the cost of the claim."
