My guest today is Anthony Barksdale. Anthony was the Acting Commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department from 2007 to 2012, and has worked at various levels of policing as well as with the FBI. He's now also a commentator for CNN.
Anthony and I discussed the national conversation on policing and racism. We talked about the shooting of Ma’Khia Bryant, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and how Martial Arts training could prevent the need for cops to use deadly force. The possibility of substituting cops with mental health professionals, the shooting of Rashard Brooks, and when it makes sense to let suspects flee a crime scene. The over-policing of low-level drug crime and prostitution, the Ferguson effect and the current mass retirement of police officers, the defund movement, qualified immunity, the psychological dynamic between an officer and a suspect during a routine traffic stop, and about how to get rid of bad cops. I admire Anthony so much, and I'm so glad that I'm able to bring him to an audience that may have not have heard of him before. You can see me express that admiration throughout the conversation. So I really hope that you guys find this one valuable.
