In this dialogue CCARE’s founder and director, Dr. James Doty, asked Kosta Grammatis about his life’s work and what role compassion may have played. This event is an hour-long dialogue followed by questions from the audience.

Most of use the Internet in our everyday routines and cannot imagine not being connected, but who stands behind the idea of making the World Wide Web really world-wide?

The potential benefit the Internet has had so far on education is tremendous and that is only after a decade of public access. This leads to further innovation of using this powerful medium in practice. In 2010, Kosta and his team founded A Human Right. A human right to stay connected and to use the Internet for beneficiary purposes all around the globe.

But in order to achieve this goal the whole world has to have the option to log in. The main objective of this project is to bring Internet connection to every country around the world no matter how small or poor. Just three years after the foundation, the project has become a finalist in the $1 Million 2013 TED Prize.

Before launching A Human Right, Kosta has been realising some of the most exciting engineering projects of today. In 2009, Kosta lead the Eyeborg Project as the Chief Engineer creating a bionic eye for a filmmaker missing one of his eyes with a dream of creating one that could capture what he sees. In 2010 the work was finished and tested with tremendous results. This idea went on to become the TIME’s Best Inventions.

Previously, Kosta accounted the engineering position at SpaceX where he was working on designing a satellite. This satellite is now in space orbiting our wonderful planet.
