Almabrok (المبروك) Bedouin Restaurant In Sahel

ALMABROK BEDOUIN RESTAURANT 🏕

Located off the beaten path in Sahel in between Alexandria and Borg Al Arab lies an authentic Bedouin restaurant called Almabrok. They serve succulent lamb, smoked kofta and chicken, and many other mouth watering choices on their menu. Everything is prepared in a giant, open fire oven, including their specially brewed teas which are brought to you in 2 different sweet flavors. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed by literally every aspect of this restaurant. Even my daughter Nour, ate more kofta than me!

We used to go to another Bedouin restaurant in the area called Kookoo, but they closed down last year. So we were delighted to discover this new restaurant which has only been open the past 2 years. I was relieved to know we still have a Bedouin style place to eat at because my favourite aspect about these places is not only the amazing food that nowhere in Cairo can compare to, but also the experience of dining sitting down in a tent lavished with cushions and pillows. I found this tent at Almabrok to be much nicer than the one of the old restaurant of Kookoo. It felt like we were desert royals dining in it with all the red and gold color schemes they had strewn throughout.

It is a true Bedouin restaurant and like Kookoo, the owners are real Bedouin people of the Sahel desert area. All the food is made specifically to their culture and has a completely different taste than the food styles in the city of Cairo. They even have a completely different Molokeyia, they call it dry Molokeyia, and it has a very unique flavor. It looks similar to the Molokeyia of Cairo but a bit darker, more bitter, and loaded with grainy spices. If I'm being honest that's really the only thing I didn't care for that they served. It wasn't my taste, but as far as everything else goes it was wow and no complaints.

I really enjoyed their soup. It's very similar to the Moroccan soup and it's called Harrireya. It contains broth, zucchini, carrots, spices, herbs, and a noodle that in English translates to tongue of bird. But don't worry! It's not really one lol! It's just a kind of little noodle or whatever. I loved it and had 2 bowls!

They also serve a Bedoin pasta loaded with sauce. You continually mix it to get the juices from out of the bottom of the bowl. It was scrumptious!

The meats were the best part and seriously by the time I was full I was upset because my palate still wanted more!

Our experience here was superb and on top of the incredible friendly, welcoming service, the price for all what we ate was only 250EGP! One of the main comments on their Facebook page was the amazing prices. I was genuinely shocked when Amr told me how much the bill was, I have eaten at many places in this area, many more expensive than this whose quality of food doesn't compare, so I really thought it was going to be much more. Plus the restaurant is obviously a popular place because there were tons of Bedouins clad in their galabeyas arriving as we were leaving (we had an early dinner compared to most people in this area who prefer to eat supper after the sun has set and the air cools). There's also a cafe the restaurant has as well, located next door. There you will find all the shisha you want and a big screen showing sports.

If you happen to be going on a roadtrip near to where this place is located then I cannot recommend this place enough. It is as of now my number one favorite restaurant in the area and since we got home I'm still thinking about how perfect our evening was. You gotta check this place out!
