Zombie Box Standby/Backup Enclosure Review - Kohler Dropover Installation

This is a Zombie Box installed on a Kohler 20kW air-cooled-natural-gas-backup generator. The installation is a "dropover" meaning it is installed around an existing generator as opposed installing the zombie box at the time the generator is installed.

The Kohler enclosure boxes come with some sound dampening foam built in already that may reduce the impact of the zombie box.

I ran the test using a decibel app on my iPhone to provide illustrative readings, but this is not a calibrated meter. I make no claims to the accuracy of the readings and this is purely to provide a helpful reference for noise reduction in my specific installation. The phone and dB readings are taken from 6 feet away from the edge of the generator.

I bought an actual decibel meter a week after the original video was recorded so I updated the video to include readings repeated with that meter. The values were different, but the total noise reduction measured with both devices was the same so the iOS meter was giving reasonable measures of dB change.
