The public Elvis was a conservative Southern Christian, a daily Bible reader raised in the Assembly of God Church. The King's private spiritual search, however, had a wider scope. Insatiably curious, Elvis studied meditation as a disciple of Swami Yogananda, practiced faith healing and numerology, and experimented with telekinesis. However, a religious epiphany in the mid-1960s influenced the rest of his life.
