Finding Yourself Through the Service of Others | Ashley Haines | TEDxYouth@Langley

In this Tedx Talk, Ashley delves into the ins-and-outs of community service. She emphasizes how getting involved in your school or community can not only help the community around you, but can potentially help you find yourself as well. Ashley refers to her lived experiences through school — the highs and lows of moving around a lot as a child and experiencing amazing opportunities in high school and university. Being able to try out many things throughout her time in school allowed Ashley to figure out what she enjoys most. Getting involved and engaging in community service also helped Ashley meet incredible like-minded people who share similar goals. Ashley encourages youth to move past hesitations and fully embrace the discomfort that may come along with trying something new because of the benefit that comes in the long run. She hopes that you find this talk helpful and that it can provide a sense of motivation for other youth to step forward and help others in your community. Ashley Haines, a 21 year old mentor and facilitator, is an aspiring community leader from Langley, BC, Canada. She is currently studying at the University of British Columbia, pursuing a degree in International Relations and Law & Society. Community service has always been a part of Ashley’s life, but she particularly loves engaging youth in opportunities that further their leadership skills. With over 10 years of hands-on experience in grassroots community participation, leadership, and engagement through school and various non-profit organizations, Ashley has successfully encouraged many across the board the get involved and see the benefits of what it can bring to the community and beyond.
