Native to Japan and can grow quite tall and very structural – famous for being virtually indestructible! Will tolerate most lighting conditions – will tolerate getting dry and will just keep going!

A real easy plant to keep – native to French Polynesia this makes a beautiful hanging or climbing plant, the new leaves are this vibrant green and it grows so prolifically you can chop a piece off and it will start growing roots within days, so once you have one you can make loads of plants for your friends! It prefers more humid conditions but I don’t give my one any additional humidity and as you can see it’s almost perfect in leaf condition - it will tolerate drying out so that’s handy if you’re the forgetful type of houseplant keeper! If you pinch off these growing tips it will produce more shoots and make a more bushy plant, or you can just let them grow down and have lovely hanging trials. They are mildly toxic and harmful to pets if eaten so if you have animals in the house be sure to hang it up out of the way.

Aglaonema or Chinese Evergreen – https://geni.us/ChineseEvergren
Native to Asia and New Guinea, this is another ground growing or carpeting plants to when a node hits the soil it may root and form more leaves at that point. It’s very easy to keep they will tolerate colder temperatures than many tropical houseplants down to 15c or 60f. So if you have a slightly chilly spot in the winter this will be an ideal candidate and may do better than other plants there.

Anthurium, the hardiest working flowering houseplant I know – this is a real workhorse! This one is a little baby but once it's mature and putting out flowers it will keep pushing them out month after month without a break, only direct sun on the leaves will cause it any issues otherwise will it put up with drying out, it may lose a leaf or two but still keep going! If you want flowers but can generally kill anything you touch… then this is the houseplant for you!

Tradescantia Zebrina or Inch plant –https://geni.us/Tradescantia
This plant grows like a weed in its natural habitat of central and South America, its creeps along the ground climb up walls, it will root at each node and is the easiest thing to propagate, you will need to prune it regularly in order to keep a neat bushy plant unless you want a long straggly hanging plant. All you need to do is stick the trimmings back into the pot and it will grow away straight away!

So there we have my top 5 easy-care plants, each are suited to different situations so pick one that you like the sound of and you won’t go far wrong.

Just one thing to note, while most of these plants will tolerate neglect it doesn’t mean they will thrive with it! So regular water once a week and a dilute feed with houseplant food a few times in the summer and they will be your best friend!
