Max Verstappen's first podium of the 2026 Formula 1 season. P3 in Canada. And he was the first to say how it happened.

Both McLarens started on intermediates for rain that never came — pitting within the opening laps from the lead. Russell retired with a power unit failure on Lap 30. Verstappen ran second for much of the 68-lap race before Hamilton took the position in the closing stages.

"The two McLaren cars made a mess of the strategy, and George's car gave up — so that helps. But for us, it's still a great result."

Honest. Accurate. The podium was real — but the pace to earn it without help wasn't quite there yet. The medium tyre in the second stint gave him grip problems Red Bull still need to understand.

The bigger picture though — two consecutive weekends where Red Bull have been fighting near the front. Miami P5 after spinning on Lap 1. Canada P3 in the race. Before that, fighting with the midfield.

"Before we were fighting with the midfield, now we're fighting close to the front — we've made some really positive steps forward. But I also know we can do better and that's what we'll focus on."

Monaco is next. A circuit where car pace matters less and driver instinct matters more. For a four-time world champion who finally feels like he has a car underneath him again — that's an interesting prospect.
