1997 FRITTENDEN GRASSTRACK JULY 6th

The 1997 FRITTENDEN GRASSTRACK JULY 6th meeting was another fantastic offering from the Frittenden Club. Not a big meeting, but the Frittenden track is fast becoming one of the most popular venues in the country, and the entry in all the classes just shows how much the riders like the track.
In the 250cc Solo's, we see some tremendous racing with local favourites, Lee Street, Chris Still, Terry "Woggy" Giles, John Pilcher, Paul Simmons, Dave Rumsey, and from the Eastern Centre, Richard Smith, Adrian Squirrell, Steve Syrett, and Gary Wells. So it looks like a battle between the South Eastern riders and the Essex men. Who will come out on top?
The 350cc Solo's is almost as competitive, with South Eastern riders of Dave Mears, Vince Kinchin, and Paul Knott looking to fight out the win, but a bigger problem may come from another Eastern centre man, Neil Scopes. Some super racing between thse riders, ending with a terrific final.
Popular South East rider Chris Tritton heads the 500cc Solo's, and he absolutely loves this track, so will want a lot of stopping, but he's got some good riders in opposition in the form of up and coming youngster Dean Camier, who was so successful in the 250cc class, and Mark Giles, Julian Phipps, Lewis Ackerman, and Graeme Brown.
Lots of the top Left Hand Sidecars are here, and a very strong field, with some of the best racing of the entire meeting. Barry Geer, John Fish, Martin Cuff, Tony Penfold, John Arnott, Duncan Fish, Bill Penfold, Peter French, Graham Hilton, and Ken Jarvis, Andy Wood, Kevin Bovis, and Dominic Doyle.
The RH Sidecars saw a small but select field, but that didn't take away from how tough the racing was. The fast starting and local man Tim Bennett didn't get off to the best of starts, but he certainly made up for it as the day went on. Mark Edwards and John Hiscock up from the Southern centre were always going to have a say in the outcome of the result, as would Duncan Tolhurst and Gavin Newlyn. Super racing as always in this class, with some real drama in the final.
