Imaging of oral cancer: What do the surgeons want? Dr Amit Janu
Oral cancer is one of the most common and killing cancers in India. Imaging plays a major role in mapping the extent of disease and deciding the line of management. Dr Amit Janu discusses these details, as also the revised 8th AJCC classification in oral cancers, and what the referring surgeon wants from us. He discusses the importance of tumour depth, how to measure it, and how to prognosticate outcomes. He also talks of the practice changing N0 trial published by Tata Memorial Hospital in NEJM (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1506007), according to which even patients with normal sized nodes benefit from elective prophylactic nodal dissection.
