Dr. Maika's Parent Message: NEISD picks up 2 state awards
May 5, 2023
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. I want to remind you that if your child or family ever needs assistance, our staff is here to connect you with a variety of mental health services. One of those services is Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine, or TCHATT.
TCHATT provides mental health evaluations, short-term counseling, and even referrals for long-term treatment at no cost thanks to our partnership with UT Health. Counseling is offered virtually through a secure network, so you can arrange sessions in the privacy of your own home. For more information, please reach out to your school counselor or visit the link on your screen (neisd.net/student-leadership).
Do not hesitate to reach out if you or your child need help – even over summer break. There is an entire community of people at NEISD who care about you and your family. We must all work together to keep our schools and community safe. Please continue to report any suspicious behavior or activity to the North East Tip Line at the address on your screen (neisd.net/tipline).
I hope you saw the good news this week that NEISD won two categories at the 2023 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony. Our Pre-K Academy at West Avenue was named the top Early Childhood Center in the state. And North East School of the Arts (NESA) teacher Amie Charney was named the winner of the Leadership Secondary category. This state recognition is a tremendous accomplishment. Please join me in congratulating Amie and our Pre-K Academy at West Avenue.
I also want to take a moment to recognize two groups we could not do this job without. Today is School Lunch Hero Day. Despite staff shortages and shipping delays, our cafeteria staff prepare thousands of meals each day for our students. Thank you to our School Nutrition Services team for all they do to keep our students fed so they are ready to learn.
This coming Wednesday is National School Nurse Day. Thank you to the school nurses and clinic assistants who work so hard to take care of our students, staff and visitors. They are a vital resource to our students and families, offering medical expertise and support with a smile.
If you’d like to re-visit any of my previous messages, you can do so by accessing the link below (neisd.net/superintendent).
Thanks for watching. I’ll see you around our District.
