4. Moats
Moats have been used effectively since the times of the ancient Egyptians to aid in fortifying strategic strongholds, so they should work fine now. Having your own moat can definitely have its advantages during the zombie apocalypse. Whether the original purpose was to keep the in-laws or jehovah's witness out, this moat could prove to be extremely valuable in the case of an outbreak. It’s still under debate whether or not zombies can swim but either way this will certainly slow down anyone’s attack. The moat could also prove to help aid in a food source if the owner decides to try farming fish. You could also decide to add crocodiles to the moat which would further add to its defense. The moat should be deep enough so that the zombie’s head is completely submerged underwater if it tries to walk to your hide out. A shallow moat doesn’t make a huge difference if the water is only knee high. You can probably imagine that creating your own moat will be no easy task and you’ll certainly need a good water supply to do this. You’ll also need some man power with a few extra shovels to complete the construction. Don’t exactly consider the moat to be your source of drinking water either, especially if a few zombies get trapped in there.

3. Weighted Trap
Weighted traps are often seen with hunting smaller animals but when your prey are zombies, you got to think a little bit bigger. This is another fairly simple idea that could also deliver a crushing blow to an unsuspecting zombie. All you need is a heavy weight like a large stone or a chunk of scrap metal, a support beam and some bait. Possibly even a truck bed like we see here could work if you’re able to find one. If tne the beam is disturbed or moved, the weight will fall or swing and take out the zombie. This are fairly inexpensive and you don’t have to risk losing much if the trap is unsuccessful. To increase effectiveness, a rope or a chain can be added in order to remove the support beam. Another way to trigger a weighted trap would be with a tripline. If the zombie walks into the rope, the stone will fall and hopefully crush it. Even for just hunting animals, this is very useful trap that you should know how to make during the zombie apocalypse and you should be able to at least catch some rabbits.

2. Slippery Surfaces
There’s a good reason why lifeguards tell you not to run near swimming pools and it’s because slips and falls can be deadly. Although it might seem somewhat comical if zombies come across a slippery surface, it’ll be interesting to see their approach. Your generic zombie will be quite uncoordinated and especially if they’re walking up an inclined surface, the possibility of them slipping would lead to them rolling down the hill. The element of surprise needs to be your advantage and if they’re coming on to your home turf, you gotta make it as difficult as possible for them. When you know an impending attack will reach your hideout very soon, and quick and easy trap would be to place slippery liquids such as oil, butter, slip and slides, banana peels, and soap on strategic areas such as your stairs or near doors. If it’s cold outside, you can even consider spraying water on your driveway, letting it freeze and create slippery surface with this method. Any harm you can cause on a zombie at this point is a bonus and if it can slow down your attack, giving your more time to load your firearms, it’s worth it. We imagine zombies won’t be paying too much attention to the shoes their wearing and what kind of grips are on the soles. In the worst possible case, at least you’ll get a good laugh while zombies are slipping on the floor repeatedly

1. Gas Leak Traps
Here’s where things get a little explosive. For this one, you need some natural gas, some matches and some tape. This will cause an immense explosion when a group of raiders or zombies attempt to push through a door forcefully. The matches are placed head down at the bottom of door so that they can brush against the surface that will ignite them when the door moves. The room is filled with natural gas. Find a different way to get out of that room so you don’t trigger the trap like through a window and be sure to barricade that as well once you leave. Once the zombie tries to push through the door, the match will strike the igniting surface which will then set off a massive explosion if properly executed. This should only be done if you don’t can afford to cause damage to that hideout.
