Knife Making: Turning old Sheep Shears into Kukri and Cooking Knife

I bought some old sheep shears on e-bay to make knives from. Somehow everything didn't go well: first one of the blades was broken, then I had trouble getting the two parts apart and then my vice broke. Luckily I found a cheap used one quickly and from then on things went better.
The handles are hardwood that I found a year or so ago when someone was cutting down trees in a park, it is most likely robinia. The carving of the handles was challenging but fun. And the wood is beautiful. In the end I treated one of the handles with St. John's oil, because I hoped to get reddish tones, which didn't quite work out. The other one I rubbed with fresh turmeric before oiling, this one turned a nice yellow. The blades can be sharpened very well, the chef's knife has a slight tendency to break out due to the one-sided primary grinding, but this can be easily compensated. Or its a left handed knife ;)
I will make leather sheaths for both knives and maybe upload a small video of it, who knows.
I filmed the video in the course of a few days, because I had a lot of work. I hope you like it. I am always happy about likes and comments.
See you next time, take care!
