In the 96th episode in our Youtube series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo covers changing jewelry in a piercing that is still healing. When you need to do it, how to do it, and when is the best time to do it yourself.

Show Notes:

When You Need to Change Jewelry:
if the swelling is exceeding the length of the jewelry
If the Jewelry is the improper style
If you are having a reaction
If the jewelry is too long
If the jewelry is too heavy

Risks Of Changing Jewelry:
The piercing could close
Could have issues getting the jewelry in
Could damage or cause trauma to the piercing

Best Methods:
Have it changed professionally
Use a water-based lubricant
Only insert the jewelry that has been sterilized
Use a guide pin to push the old jewelry out and the new jewelry in.

When is it Best to Change Jewelry:
Double the healing time
When the jewelry is loose and slides smoothly through the piercing
As soon as the piercing is healed if the jewelry it oversized
