Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden

The impressive Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Gardens in full spring bloom...great place for a relaxing break from the city or a stroll with the dog or kids. April and May are peak months for Rhododendrons and Cherry trees as seen in this short video. Also note the unique "Dawn Redwood" from China in new foliage.

The English-Style Estate Gardens are located at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard, a suburb of Seattle. The gardens were designed in a fashion similar to the gardens at High Clere Castle, made famous by the Downton Abbey TV series.

The Locks and Gardens are maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. You are sure to see professional gardeners and Natural Resource Rangers patrolling the grounds to make it enjoyable and safe for all visitors.
