About this video: Minecraft is the most popular game of all time. Because of this, there are millions of videos out there on what you should do when you start playing Minecraft Java. However, we happen to be in a unique spot.

This video tells you and gives you different options as to what you can do as a new or old player in Minecraft Java Edition. Our goal here is to help you get started in Minecraft and then start exploring Minecraft mods.

First off when getting Minecraft though, just play. Don't worry about mods right away. If you are new to Minecraft Java Edition, the best thing you can do when you first get the game is play some single-player or, even better, a small server with your friends.

This will get you used to Minecraft Java and how the controls work.

What if you are struggling with some lag though? Well, that means it's time to start getting into mods.

No matter what, I'd actually recommend your first foray into Minecraft mods be performance mods. The two main ones to try are Optifine and Sodium. Either one is great, and you can find tutorials on both of them in the description above.

From there, it’s time to try some Minecraft servers. Specifically, I’d recommend diving into larger Minecraft servers like Hypixel. The reason for this is because large servers have tons of things for your to try, and it will show you that Minecraft is much more than a game where you build and survive.

Truthfully, a lot of players’ Minecraft journey will end here. They play on some servers, and maybe host a server of their own for their friends on our sponsor Apex Minecraft Hosting, and that’s it. However, I want people to start taking this a step further.

So, what Minecraft mods would we recommend starting with?

To get started, utility mods are the way to go. These are mods that don’t add new blocks or systems to Minecraft but instead focus on quality-of-life improvements. Mods like Just Enough Items, JourneyMap, and Mouse Tweaks.

Next, add in a biome mod. These will add additional biomes to Minecraft and give you hundreds of hours of extra exploring time. The two main Minecraft biome mods are Biomes O’ Plenty and Oh The Biomes You’ll Go.

From there, the best thing you can do is pick a mod and learn it. This could be Tinker’s Construct, Botania, Quark, The Twilight Forest, and many more. There is a link in the description to CurseForge where you can find hundreds of different Minecraft mods.
