For many Woodpreneurs, making things is the simple part of the job. It’s not always easy, but it’s the reason that most people get into the industry. However, especially nowadays, social media is one of the cornerstones of any successful business, and John Graves from City Hardwoods knows that sometimes it helps to get a bit of advice when it comes to that essential element.

“I was thinking about this today, actually. How much is too much with social media, like just being in their face? What is your opinion on that? Is every day too much? I enjoy doing social media but at the same time, it does take time and I don't want to overdo it.”

Reminding People that you Exist

“That's a great question. So the way I look at it is like, look in your email right now. There's a good chance that whoever you bought from recently sent you an email, right? If you buy something from The Gap, or Home Depot, they're sending a message tomorrow, and because they have your email, you're going to get ads from them. 

We think because it's our business, that we're important, but you're not any more important than the other things are to others. And so, if you have a product or service, it's kind of on you to remind people that you exist, otherwise people will forget about you altogether. 

If you're feeling like it's too much, you actually have to push past that because that's the part where you're starting to feel uncomfortable, but people don't even still don't even know you exist.”

For business owners, our companies are a massive part of our lives, and they are on our minds constantly. So while it is easy to worry about ‘overdoing it’ with social media, you have to remember that you are just one entity vying for attention from all of your potential customers. A big part of improving that aspect of your business is mindset, but you can look at your metrics and make actionable changes.
