Aquastats
An aquastat is a device commonly used to control water temperatures in water heating systems. Think of them as thermostats for water.
You must pay close attention to the operating temperature range and differential temperature when selecting an aquastat for your application. Depending on the type of unit you use, the aquastat will turn equipment either on or off when water in the system reaches each of these settings. The differential temperature equals the temperature setting minus the differential. Some aquastats have fixed differentials, but many offer adjustable differentials, typically between 5°F and 30°F.
There are three types of aquastats: high limit, low limit, and circualtor aquastats.
High limit aquastats are normally used with hydronic heating boilers. They turn the boiler off when the system reaches the temperature setting and turn it back on when the system drops to the temperature setting minus the differential.
Low limit aquastats also turn equipment on when temperatures drop to the high limit temperature minus the differential, but they are generally used for maintaining minimum boiler temperatures in boilers that service domestic hot water as well as heating.
High and low limit aquastats are often referred to as "break on rise" models. They prevent boilers from firing too frequently.
Circulator aquastats, make an electrical circuit on a temperature rise, activate circulator pumps when temperatures reach the setpoint. prevent circulation of water below the target heating level, and turn circulators off when temperatures go down to the differential setting.
Optional features for aquastats include wells for direct immersion, strap-on brackets for pipe mounting, remote sensing bulbs, and manual reset. Some models are able to perform multiple functions, such as circulator and high limit.
We offer a wide selection of aquastats and wells for regulating the temperature of liquids.
