Queensland government accused of lying over exemption plea

The Queensland government has been accused of lying over a high profile exemption plea from a man wanting to see his dying mother.

Anthony McCormick flew into Sydney from Canada and put forward an exemption request to Queensland Health to finish his hotel quarantine in the state so that he could see his mother one last time.

She, however, passed away on Wednesday night before Mr McCormick could see her.

The Queensland government has maintained throughout the ordeal that they were doing everything possible in order to get him the exemption to enter the state.

Mr McCormack has, however, provided an email to Sky News from Queensland Health denying his exemption request in contradiction to the state government's comments.

“They failed me in getting to see my mother, they never called me," he told Sky News.

"They let the case drop and they don’t seem too concerned about anything more to do with it.

“Everything points to this to be brazen, outright lying, that’s what it points to.”
