Pp vs Ppk Explained — The Process Capability Mistake Most Engineers Miss

🔥 Your process might look capable — but is it actually centred?

Pp and Ppk are process performance measures used to understand how well a process is performing against specification limits.

In this quick Lean Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement lesson, you’ll learn the difference between Pp and Ppk, why they matter, and what they tell you about process performance.

Pp shows the potential performance of the process based on overall variation. It tells you how wide the process spread is compared to the specification limits.

Ppk goes further by showing whether the process is actually centred between the limits. A process can have a good Pp, but a poor Ppk if the average is too close to one side of the specification.

Use Pp and Ppk to understand whether your process is capable, whether it is drifting, and whether improvement is needed to reduce variation or recentre the process.
