Feria Internacional de la Pirotecnia!!!

The International Fair of Pyrotechnics. Every year on March 8, the city of Tultepec, Mexico celebrates and honors the patron saint of firework artisans, San Juan de Dios. The festival lasts a week and has different events for every different day. But on the 8th is a special celebration. This is the day that they parade bulls made of papier-mache through the downtown streets and into the square. These bulls are all hand-made by families or neighborhoods and they compete for a cash prize. Each bull is rigged with a load of fireworks that they light up in the town square.
The crazy part about this whole thing is that as the bulls are pushed around the square with the fireworks igniting and shooting out, anyone can get as close to it as they like (at their own risk). Hundreds of people try to get as close as they can to the action and get burned in the process. Why, you ask?... Well, I can't explain why. I can explain that it was an adrenaline rush and many of them were drunk. It was a lot of fun getting up close to the danger, but it is very risky. I was told that people die at this event every year. The drunk people do stupid things that get them and others hurt. Burns are inevitable but eye injuries are very common. If I wasn't wearing goggles, my eye would have been hit by a blazing firework.

2018 is the 30th anniversary if this festival and they wanted to make a world record for the number of bulls they had on parade. I was told there were about 500 of them that day even though the record would have been broken with just over 300.
