I’ve always known there are many different types of octopus in this world. Most experts agree there are over 300 known species living in our oceans. What I didn’t know is that there are octopus that live outside the ocean. At least, that is what this video claims.
The video, first sent in by Wouter Janse, Daniel Salmoran, Melih U, and Johnny Dunn claims to have caught what’s described as a rare tree octopus on video.
But is this video real? Or is it just another creepy creature fake. Why don’t we kick it around and see falls out of the tree.
If you’re like me you probably said fake right away… right? But one thing I have learned doing all these real or fake investigations. Never jump to conclusions… Do your research…
The video itself doesn’t show us much more than a shot of an octopus in a tree that looks really fake… But it was posted by a channel called SAVE THE TREE OCTOPUS.
If you look in the comments section of the video, you’ll see there’ve been lots school kids organizing fund raisers to help tree octopuses because they are threatened.
Then there is this - the webpage that is also operated by the Save the tree Octopus.
Now, according to this very substantial website, the creature is officially known as a Pacific Northwest tree octopus (Octopus paxarbolis). It is an amphibious version of the regular ocean going octopus and very rare.
Something else I learned from the site is that octopus arms are very useful for climbing around in trees. It is in the trees where these strange creatures feast on regular buffet if insects, rodents, and eggs
