Gwen Berry needs to ‘apologise’ to America and if not she can ‘compete somewhere else’

Lara Trump has reigned down on Olympian Gwen Berry for turning away from the US flag on Saturday - calling it a “stunt” and saying she owes America an “apology”.

“How disrespectful to America, how disrespectful to our troops,” she told Fox News.

“If she wants to compete under the United States of America I think she owes an apology to every American.

“We need better representatives for the United States.

Go compete somewhere else unless you want to apologise.”

The US hammer thrower turned away from the flag during the national anthem at an Olympics trial last Saturday.

She also held up a t-shirt that read “Activist Athlete” while on the podium.

Ms Berry accused officials of playing the Star-Spangled Banner “on purpose” while she received third place.

“I feel it was a setup,” she told the Washington Post.

“I feel like they did that on purpose, and I was pissed, to be honest.

“I was thinking about what should I do. Eventually, I just stayed there and just swayed. I put my shirt over my head. It was real disrespectful. I know they did that on purpose.”

The Olympian has copped major backlash from the move - with many angry Americans calling for her to be removed from the Olympics team.
