Flight report: Boarding was prompt and we were ready to push back at 07:15. We taxied to one of the crossing points for runway 23L. After a short hold for two arriving aircraft, we made a quick taxi across runway 05L/23R. We taxied straight onto runway 23L briefly holding short of the threshold. We rocketed down the runway and climbed into the morning sky. Takeoff was a little turbulent as would be the flight for the duration. We climbed to our cruising altitude of 37000ft. Our route took us down along the West Midlands, the west of France, Northwest Spain before reaching the Portuguese coast. We began descending near Porto. As we began our approach there were dense clouds over Lisbon. As we were on short finals there was still dense cover and the pilots carried out a missed approach. We climbed back up to 20000ft and joined back into the approach pattern for runway 21. We landed successfully on this second attempt, but it was somewhat firm touching down. We vacated the runway and taxied very quickly to stand 201 by terminal 2, We deplaned 10 minutes and were bused to terminal 1 arrivals.
